Members of the department were called to the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue NW shortly before 1 a.m. on Oct. 17 last year, where there was reports of a man down after being accosted in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found Northwest DC resident Reggie Brown suffering from what was described by police as "trauma consistent with an assault."
He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Brown's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, which determined his cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide that led to three arrests this week of young girls.
On Thursday, a 13-year-old was taken into custody and charged in connection to the incident. The following day, a second 13-year-old and a 12-year-old were also arrested.
All three children are from Northwest DC and have been charged with second-degree murder. The case remains under investigation.
